Types of Tile

There are three main tile types: ceramic, porcelain, and stone. Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from the same materials. Porcelain is traditionally denser and more resistant to moisture and heat. Ceramic tiles are light-weight, easy on your budget, and great for wall applications. Porcelain tiles are more durable, so they tend to be used in high-traffic settings. These tiles have a water absorption rate of less than 0.5%, which means they are virtually waterproof. Some porcelain tiles are too dense and heavy to be used on walls, but they can be used in outdoor areas like patios and pool sides. Today, there are ceramic tiles that rival porcelain’s durability.

Stone tiles provide the natural appearance of marble, slate, granite, travertine, limestone, and more. This means that each stone tile is completely unique. For instance, we offer high-end natural marble tiles that each feature their own creamy shades and swirling mineral veins. Stone tiles are naturally porous and usually need to be regularly sealed to enhance their durability and moisture-resistance. If you prefer a more low-maintenance product, we suggest considering porcelain or ceramic.

We also offer tile options that are made from unique materials like glass, metal, and even concrete. Mixing different types of tiles creates amazing dimension and an interesting focal point in your room. It is common to see mixed materials in backsplash tiles.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Tile is common in kitchens and bathrooms because it can handle heat and moisture. It can also be installed on all levels of your home, including basements, laundry rooms, foyers, hallways, and more. More durable tiles like stone and porcelain can be installed outside as a patio or walkway. We also offer a great selection of wall tile, backsplash tile, and shower tile. Take your design skills to the next level by adding a backsplash or custom tile accent wall in your home. You can even customize your bathroom by installing a tiled shower, which adds style and even value to your space.
